Laboratory Facilities
Bruker Avance DRX 400 MHz FT-NMR Spectrometer with Micro-Imaging Facility
Our 400 MHz NMR spectrometer is equipped with 5-mm multinuclear BBI & BBO probeheads. This also has a widebore probe for Micro-imaging. The instrument is used mainly for the body-fluids and tissue extracts. Works related to structure determination and/or dynamics of small bio-organic molecules, natural products/extracts is also undertaken. The instrument is controlled by RedHat/SGI Irix workstation (HP) along with XWin-NMR 3.5 for high-resolution NMR and Para Vision 3.0 for micro-imaging. Facility for file/data sharing is also available through intranet connectivity (Windows/Linux - 4 workstations) for post-processing.
These centralized storage facilties are used for storing different types of biological samples, such as, tissues/tissue-extracts, cells, blood/serum, urine, pus, CSF etc.
Sample storage facilities: Refrigerators (left) for sample-storage up to 4°C, and deep-freezers of -20°C and -80°C capacities (right)
Ultra-centrifuge (Sigma) with cooling capacity up to 4°C
This is a high performance centrifuge with three rotors. Two fixed-angle rotors; one accommodates six 50 ml conical tubes at 18000 rpm, 29703 g and another accommodates twenty four, 2-1.5 ml eppendorfs at 18000 rpm, 29703 g. It has a swinging bucket rotor which accommodates twenty eight 15 ml conical tubes at 5000 rpm, 2773 g. This facility is being used in different extraction procedures as well as to separate any solid materials from the biofluids. Its application also includes cell harvesting and culture refreshment.
Lyophilizer (Heto LyoLab 3000)
The lyophilizer combines high performance refrigeration and vacuum systems with easy-to-use intuitive controls, to give reliable and repetitive trouble-free operation. It is used at different stages of our experiments for freeze drying.

The ultrasonic homogenizer is used for the disruption of cells, bacteria, spores or tissues, and for the preparation of emulsions, to accelerate chemical reactions, to stimulate bacterial activity and disperse solids in liquids.
Two pH meters, one with normal sized glass electrode and other with microelectrode, are available for measuring/monitoring the pH of samples.
